Well, James Bond is alive and well and still kicking the crap out of pretty much everyone. Skyfall opened to the biggest Bond debut EVER! Somewhere Pierce Brosnan just kicked a white cat down some steps. Daniel Craig’s 3rd foray into the world of MI6 opened to $87.8 million, according to studio estimates. That brings the latest Bond to over $500m worldwide ALREADY. With strong word-of-mouth (CinemaScore audiences gave the film a very strong A rating), look for this Bond flick to be the first to exceed $200m in the US, as well as $600m worldwide. Also, with Craig signed on for 2 more Bond adventures, the franchise should be in good hands for a little bit. Next Sunday, after several more have had time to see Skyfall, we will be posting up our Skyfall spoilercast…complete with some of our favorite Bond moments from the last 50 years.
Wreck-It Ralph held up very strong with $33m and a $93m total. With Thanksgiving next week and good legs, the flick should hold well after the holidays. Denzel’s Flight did not expand like those dips at the studio should have done, but still held well in the face of the British spy onslaught with $15m. After 2 weeks and limited theaters, Flight has brought in $47.7m and is already on its way to profitability. We doubt you’ll see a Flight 2 though.
The only other release was limited, and WAY more limited than originally expected as Lincoln popped into ONE theater and made $900K. Great opening for a limited release and bodes well for its expansion this Friday…oh wait, it opens again Twilight. Look for Lincoln to get shot down once again.
Argo held well again with $6.7m and a $85m total, $100m is a matter of when at this point. Taken 2 kicked in another $4m to a $131m total. The sequel held up much better than anyone ever expected. Never doubt the Neeson.
