The Dark Knight Rises held the #1 slot for the 3rd week in a row. Christopher Nolan’s conclusion to his epic Dark Knight trilogy is holding strong and will have no problem breezing past $400 million domestic, and has already cleared $730 million worldwide. The film has done well enough that you can rest assured someone, somewhere, is writing a new Batman reboot right this very second. As for new releases, Total Recall opened to $25.5 million…only a smudge more than the 1990 original. That’s not a great opening for a remake, but it’s not awful. Word of mouth will decide how well the film does overall.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days also opened this weekend, to $14.6 million…a step down from the $20+ million openings of the previous installments, so don’t be surprised if this completes the Wimpy Kid theatrical series. Ice Age 4 held decent at $8.6 million and at $132 million, it is the weakest in the series domestically…but this series thrives overseas and with over $500 million there, expect a Part 5 in the near future. Lastly, The Watch dropped to $6.5 million and a $25.5 million total. That is what most thought the film would earn over its opening weekend. Next weekend should liven up a little with new releases The Bourne Legacy and The Campaign.
