Growing up in a mid-sized city in Georgia, one can only play in the sweltering heat for so long. One of the best alternatives was (and still is) to sit in a dark, cool theater for a couple of hours to beat the heat. This was probably the catalyst to spark my love of movies. I simply love to be taken to a time or place that I’ve never been or will never go.
My interest in movies started as a kid during the explosion of iconic movies being released in the 70’s. Movies such as Star Wars, Jaws, and The Exorcist. The awesome 80’s only nurtured that love with some bitchin’ flicks as Raiders of the Lost Ark, Bull Durham, and Untouchables. The hella-good 90’s saw my interest really kick off with the likes of Shawshank Redemption, Goodfellas, and anything Quentin Tarantino touched. Somewhere along the line, I’ve acquired a love for the classics such as Casablanca and foreign films like Yojimbo and Das Boot. My sense of humor was molded from movies such as Caddyshack, Airplane, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
Having worked in the U.S. Coast Guard and Merchant Marines, I acquired a monster movie collection as I would buy movies to take underway to have something to watch. This led to me being the ‘go to guy’ for anything cinema within my circle of friends and family… and having storage issues with my movie collection. Stupid trivia accumulation was a natural byproduct of this.
This opportunity to record my ramblings about movies is a pleasure and I am humbled that you take time out of your day to listen to our silly opinions.
