New Releases – Weekend Oct 5-7

There are 2 new releases and 1 expanding release this week.  Justin / Scott had Pitch Perfect as their picks of the week, where Brian / Aaron had Taken 2 in last week’s Ep 61 where we discussed the Oct 5th releases.  Which flick are YOU seeing this weekend?

Taken 2 – He has a very specific set of medications…I mean skills.  The man with the dumbass daughter is back! Liam Neeson, perhaps the coolest 60+ year old alive, returns to the role that made him a geriatric action superstar.  This time, Brian Mills and his estranged wife gets taken and their 45 year old playing a teen daughter (Maggie Grace) has to come to their rescue.  It’s very sad that they didn’t use a Doobie Brothers cover and call this Taken 2: The Streets (see what I did there?).  Reviews have been rather weak, BUT filmgoers are liking it much more.  As long as you’re aware it’s pretty much the same movie as the 1st, you should have a good time.

Frankenweenie – This dog can’t catch a break.  1st, he died and was Frankensteined back in the 80’s as a Tim Burton short, and now he’s getting a longer version of that short and he’s going up against the actual Frankenstein in the biggest movie out currently – Hotel Transylvania.  The reviews have been great, but a black & white stop-motion animated film about a kid bringing his dead dog back to life is a tough sell.

Pitch Perfect – We reviewed this fun, singing competition flick on this week’s show so let’s paraphrase: It’s exactly what you think it is, and it’s fun.  Reviews have been great, word-of-mouth even better so if you’re looking for a fun film with your friends who love music, this is worth a trip to the theater.
