On this episode of The Hollywood Outsider podcast, we have four distinct topics to dive into as we revisit our most popular conversations of 2023: Movie Theater Memories, Audiences Struggle With Change, Dream Movie and TV Pairings, and Movie Sequels We Didn’t Need.
First, we take a walk down memory lane as we barb back-and-forth on our favorite movie theater memories: those times IN a movie theater that have stayed with us for all of these years. What was your most memorable time at the cinema?
Then we discuss who we would love to see paired up for a film or TV project. Think Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte, Danny Glover and Mel Gibson, Martin Lawrence and Will Smith, Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, etc. Those actors who somehow immediately gel despite never seeming to fit off the page. Who are your dream film or TV pairings?
We then decide to dive deep into a hot button topic: why do audiences struggle so much with change? Think about it, we all have it. Something beloved to us: James Bond, The Last Jedi, Superman, Peter Parker, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars – whatever it is, there is SOME property we feel should always remain just as we remember it. But why? It’s time to discuss.
We all live in an IP world, where everything seems to be made or spun off from an existing property. So we take a look at the phenomenon of movie sequels we didn’t need. Perhaps it made sense, but ultimately these choices to make a sequel ended up hurting the original films they were based off of.
