‘The Challenger’ tells the tale of Jaden (Kent Moran), a young man in the Bronx desperately trying to find his place in life. A series of coincidences place him on the path of boxing. Unlike most films of this type, Jaden has not always aspired to take his personal turmoil into the ring, this is essentially a vocation that happens to suit his skillset. After winning over a reluctant trainer (Michael Clark Duncan) and the attention of reality television, Jaden sets his sights on a title bout with the current Champion (Justin Hartley).
As the writer, director, and star of ‘The Challenger’, The Hollywood Outsider sat down with Kent to discuss his new film. From inception through post-production, Kent elaborates on why this film was so special to him, as well as how the late Michael Clark Duncan came to be involved in what would ultimately prove to be his last film. An insightful interview with a filmmaker on the rise.
