Nominations have been released for Golden Globes 2024, the 81st annual event, which is attempting to launch a comeback after several years of disdain within the industry over how the previous regime handled issues like diversity. No longer owned by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the Golden Globes are now property of Dick Clark Productions and Eldridge.
But do audiences still care?
There have been steps taken to increasing the number of voters, as well as expanding on voter demographics, and have added two additional categories this year in Box Office Achievement and Stand-Up comedy. Whether or not these additions motivate audiences to tune-in or celebrities to show up remains to be seen. But those that want to watch the show can do so on January 7th on CBS or Paramount+. As of this writing, several notable celebrities, including Chris Rock and the Smartless crew, have denied requests to host the gala. So maybe it’s time to bring back Ricky Gervais after all.
