The Westworld Franchise
Welcome to Beyond Westworld, and boy do we have a franchise for you!
What is Westworld? What are the roots and themes of the upcoming HBO series? In our final episode before we dive deep into HBO’s upcoming series, Aaron and Troy discuss the original film, its sequel, Futureworld, and short-lived series Beyond Westworld as well as why these themes still resonate today.
In 1973, celebrated author and filmmaker Michael Crichton released Westworld, his visionary idea of what a theme park could be as human-looking androids fulfilled our every desire. 4 decades later, creators Jonathan and Lisa Joy Nolan are taking the concept to the next evolutionary step as Westworld can now be ‘fleshed’ out as a deeper concept that explores the vast array of potential and consequence from such advanced artificial intelligence.
