2020 Golden Globes Award Winners

2020 Golden Globes

The Golden Globes are prestigious accolades given to honorees for their excellence in television and film, both domestic and internationally, on behalf of the 93 members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

The awards show began at 20th Century Fox in 1944, which awarded Jennifer Jones for The Song of Bernadette as Best Actress, and Paul Lukas for Watch on the Rhine as Best Actor. As time progressed, the Golden Globe Awards moved from scrolls as the awards presentation to the shiny globe which represents the diversity in film-making throughout the world that many of us recognize today.

For the 77th Golden Globes, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced the nominees several months ago. Most shocking based on the film and television industry history until recently, is Netflix securing 24% of the total nominations for work such as Marriage Story, The Irishman, Unbelievable, and The Kominsky Method, among others.

The winners were announced on Sunday, January 5th, 2020 on NBC. This includes Tom Hanks, who was presented with the distinguished Cecil B. deMille Award for his more than three decades of phenomenally compelling work in front and behind the camera, and his “lasting impact on the film industry“, and Ellen DeGeneres, who was awarded the Carol Burnette Award for her “outstanding contributions to television on or off the screen.”

About Amanda M. Sink

Film and television have been a primary focal point in Amanda's life since she was young, serving as the foundation for a great deal of friendships. Submersing herself into the content, getting wrapped up in the different stories, characters and visuals is her favorite pastime. She often compares it to a roller coaster ride; that rush of adrenaline and feeling of tension, yet excitement, is what she love about movies. A great film is one that the audience can connect with - one with purpose. As a Rotten Tomatoes accredited film critic, Amanda makes every effort to maintain an open-mind to all movies and genres, giving them the fair chance they deserve... Except for Lady in the Water, that never should have had a shot. You can find Amanda every week on The Hollywood Outsider and her other podcasts: Inspired By A True Story and Smirk.
