8. Alec Baldwin
Ahh, Mr. Baldwin. He of the tyrannical off-screen temper and more than a few shots at big screen stardom lost on some poorly conceived choices (The Shadow anyone?). Alec is the Baldwin with easily the greatest chance to succeed. Yet, the actor seemingly gave up and officially has relegated himself to comedic roles. That is not to say he was not great in 30 Rock, just that he has been coasting a bit on these attributes while we, the audience, are left to wonder if ‘Alec – The Actor’ will ever return.
For all of his off-screen and on-screen faults, Baldwin is one powerhouse of an actor. One only needs to glimpse his stunning monologue in Glengarry Glen Ross or his ‘I Am God’ speech from Malice to know this. Yes, he made several poorly crafted attempts at commercial success several years ago, but if there is one actor on this list who no audience could question his ability, this is the guy.
Come on, Alec. Get back on the big screen and show us the Alec Baldwin of yesteryear, the one we had only a fleeting glimpse of. The man with the slick black hair and steely eyes, beading into the souls of lesser men. It is long past due.
